Translation of degrees and transcripts — German ↔ French

A certified translation for your studies and career

Enrolling at a French university, sitting a competitive exam, applying for a job or having a foreign qualification assessed often means providing a certified translation of degrees and transcripts written in German. Only a translation signed and stamped by an expert translator registered with a French Court of Appeal carries that value.

Julie Auger-Kantor, sworn German ↔ French translator and interpreter and court-appointed expert at the Paris Court of Appeal, translates degrees and transcripts issued in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as French qualifications to be submitted to universities or employers in German-speaking countries. Employment references (Arbeitszeugnis) are covered on the professional documents page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to translate my transcript as well as my degree?
Often, yes: many institutions ask for both the degree certificate and the transcript. Check the list of documents required by the institution or organisation concerned.
Does the translation get my degree recognised in France?
No. The translation renders the content of your degree in French; it does not establish equivalence. To place a foreign qualification within the French system, the ENIC-NARIC France centre (France Éducation international) issues a certificate of comparability (attestation de comparabilité) on request. It is not compulsory and has no legal force: it is an opinion.
I am applying to a German university with French qualifications: what translation do I need?
German universities, like the uni-assist application service, generally ask for a translation by a sworn translator into German or English. Each university sets its own rules, so check before ordering whether it accepts a translation certified in France. For the assessment of foreign qualifications in Germany, the official references are the anabin database and the Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen (ZAB).
Do I need to provide the original?
No. A clear scan or photo is enough to produce the translation. The receiving authority may, however, ask to see the original.
